SIU HONG LOH

PhD student

Siu Hong graduated from Sheffield Hallam University, UK, in 2002, with a BEng (Hons) in Electronic Systems Engineering. He obtained an MSc in Electronics from Queen’s University of Belfast, Nothern Ireland, in 2003, where he investigated special types of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrates incorporating tungsten silicide ground planes.
In the following year, he became a lecturer in School of Technology (Electronic Engineering Division), Tunku Abdul Rahman College, Malaysia. He joined the Nanotechnology Group in Multimedia University, Malaysia, in 2007. His main research activity was the design of a nanolithography system using the atomic force microscope (AFM)- specifically local anodic oxidation.
Siu Hong joined the Nanoscale Function Group in April 2008 to study for a PhD under the supervision of Professor Suzi Jarvis. His research currently involves development of a low-noise liquid AFM for application in the first instance to inorganic materials, working towards biological systems in the latter half of the project.
