RESEARCH TOOLS
The primary research tool used by our group is
atomic force microscopy (AFM)
.
We recently developed
a liquid-environment low-noise AFM
capable of achieving atomic and molecular scale resolution.
We combine AFM with fluorescence microscopy.
For high sensitivity, we operate the AFM in a variety of dynamic modes, most commonly
frequency modulation (FM) AFM
.
We implement dynamic modes magnetically, a technique we refer to as
magnetically activated dynamic (MAD) mode
.
We use
carbon nanotube (CNT) tips
to improve sensitivity.
